Gotham Coatings Garage Floor Process
To begin, we grind about 1/32nd of an inch off of the entire floor to open the pores of the concrete. Additionally, this creates small bumps that give the primer something to adhere to. This is the most important part which creates mechanical adhesion for our products.
We will grind out any existing cracks and use an epoxy based crack repair to fill in the floor to give a perfect final finish.
Once the concrete is prepped, we are ready to pour! We apply a two-part epoxy water vapor barrier to create a smooth surface that is ready for the flake application.
While the epoxy primer is still wet, we broadcast the flake color combo of your choice. Once the epoxy is dry, we scrape the floor to remove excess flake and to give it the proper profile for the top coat.
Applying the highest quality polyaspartics for the top coat to our chip floors is our final step. The top coat creates a UV resistant, durable, and chemical resistant coating that ensures your new epoxy floor will last for years to come.
Frequently Asked Questions (And Answers!)
Epoxy flooring is a type of coating that is made by combining a resin with a hardener. This mixture creates a durable, strong, and chemically resistant surface that is ideal for a variety of applications, including residential, commercial and industrial spaces.
Polyaspartic coating is a type of coating that is similar to epoxy, but it has a faster curing time and is more flexible. This makes it ideal for areas that need UV resistance, need a quick turnaround time or where there is a lot of movement, such as garage floors or outdoor surfaces.
The installation time for epoxy flooring or polyaspartic coating can vary depending on the size of the area and the complexity of the project. However, typically, it takes 2 days for epoxy flooring and 1 day for polyaspartic coating.
Absolutely! Epoxy flooring is well-suited for Greeley’s climate. We use high-quality epoxies formulated to resist cracking and peeling even during extreme temperature fluctuations. Plus, its non-porous surface resists moisture and won’t be harmed by melting snow or ice from your car.
Definitely! Epoxy creates a seamless, non-porous surface that resists stains and spills. Oil, grease, and most household chemicals wipe up easily, making it a low-maintenance choice ideal for active Greeley garages.
We prioritize safety! You can customize the slip-resistance of your epoxy garage floor. We offer a range of textured additives, from subtle to more aggressive, ensuring you get the right level of traction even when moisture is present. This makes it a smart choice for Greeley winters.
We only use grinders to prep our floors for several reasons:
Increased adhesion: The rougher surface created by floor grinding provides better adhesion for the coating. The increased surface area allows for a stronger bond between the concrete and the coating, reducing the risk of delamination or peeling.
Smoother surface: While floor grinding creates a rougher surface, it can also help to level out any high spots or uneven areas in the concrete surface. This can result in a smoother surface for the coating to be applied to, improving the overall appearance and durability of the coating.
Removal of contaminants: Floor grinding can also remove any contaminants on the concrete surface, such as old paint, adhesives, or sealers. This is important because any contaminants left on the surface can affect the adhesion and performance of the coating.
Improved appearance: Floor grinding can also help to improve the appearance of the concrete surface, as it can remove any surface stains, blemishes, or imperfections.
The cost of epoxy flooring or polyaspartic coating can vary depending on a number of factors, including the size of the area, the complexity of the project, and the type of finish you choose.
In order to provide you with an accurate quote, we need to see the condition of the floor and assess any preparation work that may be needed before applying the coating. This will ensure that the coating will adhere properly and provide the best possible results.
We would be happy to schedule a time to visit your home or location and provide a free estimate for our services. During this visit, we can evaluate the condition of the floor, discuss your options and preferences, and provide an accurate quote based on the scope of work needed.
Yes! Proper preparation is key for a flawless epoxy finish. Our team thoroughly assesses your existing Greeley garage floor and repairs any cracks or imperfections before applying the epoxy system. This ensures a smooth, even, and long-lasting result.
